Take on your own challenge

Sarah's first marathon!

One of our lovely friends, Sarah, is taking on a huge challenge and running her first full marathon on Sunday, 13 October in Parramatta.
She has kindly offered to raise funds in Pippa and Daisy's memory, to add to the incredible amount raised from City2Surf.
Good luck Sarah, you'll smash it!

Remembering Pippa and Daisy Brownlie

Hi everyone,

Last year our beautiful twin girls Pippa and Daisy were born very prematurely at 25 weeks on 15th June.

Unfortunately, although they both fought an amazing fight they weren’t able to make it, we lost Pippa after 5 days with us on the 20th June and Daisy 11 weeks later on 31st August.

Whilst this was heartbreaking for us, we had help from some amazing people and organisations along the way and in honour of our girls and to continue saying their names, we have decided to start supporting them on an ongoing basis.

One charity in particular that stood out was Running for Premature Babies. In Australia, 1 in 10 babies are born prematurely, which equates to 26,000 babies every year. Many of these babies require Neonatal Intensive Care, which is one of the most expensive parts of health care. Caring for a premature baby can cost anywhere between $3,500 and $10,000 per day. Running for Premature Babies proudly supports the equipment and research needs of Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) and Special Care Nurseries (SCNs) Australia-wide to help give premature babies a better chance of survival and quality of life.

On the long days in the hospital over the winter last year we couldn’t help but notice how many of the incubators, machines and items we saw in the NICU had little plaques on them to say they had been donated by Running For Premature babies. We later found out that over 70% of the life-saving equipment in the unit has been funded through donations.

This was something we found both staggering and a source of comfort, the thought of so many people giving up their free time to raise funds and those who donated made it feel a little bit less lonely.

We got chatting to Sophie who founded the charity and we were inspired by her story, so this year we are planning to run City2Surf in Daisy and Pippa’s honour and try to raise some money for a truly wonderful cause.

The goal is to have as many people as possible run it with us so if you’d like to join, please click the 'Join Team' icon.

Thank you, we really appreciate your support.
