"I got tired but I didn't give up because I knew I was running for the premature babies"

HOW IT WORKS

Register your School

Teachers, express your interest in your school joining Running for Premature Babies in the City2Surf 2024 here and we'll be in touch. We'll work with you to ensure your students maximise their positive health and movement outcomes.

Build Compassion and Resilience

We'll give students a link to join your school's team, and give each a personal fundraising page. By arrangement, our founder, Sophie Smith OAM can visit your school to talk about resilience and share her personal story of how Running for Premature Babies began.

Go the Distance

Students, parents and teachers enjoy the thrill of the World's Biggest Fun Run on 11 August 2024. Walk or Run 14kms and join us at our hospitality tent for post-event refreshments!

Every participant on a School Team who raises over $300 can have their race entry fee refunded in full.

SCHOOL PROFILE

120 students from Ascham

120 incredibly energised students from Ascham School joined us to give premature babies a better chance of survival at the City2Surf 2023, including Keira and Mia. The students raised over $24,000 and reported having more energy for schoolwork and being 'pumped about helping others'.

Keira was herself born prematurely at 36 weeks and spent her first two weeks in the Special Care Nursery of the Prince of Wales Private Hospital. Her younger sister Isla was born at 28 weeks and spent a rocky first three months in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Despite experiencing some serious complications in the first few days after birth and being on ventilation for weeks, Isla is now an active and healthy 8-year-old in Year 3 at Ascham.

WIN:WIN FOR SCHOOLS AND STUDENTS

Modelling Altrusitic Behaviour

Your school's participation in the City2Surf 2024 with Running for Premature Babies can be an important way to foster prosocial and compassionate actions in students.

The achievement of novel activities like this will reinforce cross-curriculum PDHPE learning objectives and the development of self-learning and interpersonal skills. This strengthens positive self-identity and the recognition of personal strengths and the strengths of others.

Through fundraising, students learn the benefits of altrusim and the joy of helping others in the community. Their actions will lead to giving families the joy of bringing home a baby who is ready to thrive.

STUDENT PROFILE

From Student to Premmie Hero

One of our top fundraisers in City2Surf 2022, was Oscar Sheffield, a Year 6 student on our team from St Margaret Mary's Catholic Primary School, Randwick North.

Oscar first heard about our charity when Sophie spoke at his school assembly and he was immediately moved to find out more and make a difference.

After asking Sophie some extremely thoughtful questions following her talk, Oscar went home and told his dad about the charity, his desire to run the City2Surf and to fundraise to help save the lives of premature babies. Oscar and his dad ran the 14km together and raised a phenomenal $4121. These funds contributed to the purchase of a life-saving humidicrib for the Children's Hospital at Westmead!

A SMALL THANK YOU

THE DIRECT BENEFIT TO FAMILIES

2023 Fundraising

A large part of the 2023 fundraising was used to purchase a technologically advanced and life-saving humidicrib for The Grace Centre for Newborn Intensive Care at The Children's Hospital at Westmead.

The Grace Centre is a specialised unit where more than 600 premature and critically ill babies with complex medical conditions, such as serious cardiac and surgical disorders are treated each year.
